2008 Season Comes to a Close
Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008
With bellies still full from Thanksgiving dinners and the fall Texas weather rolling in, racers brought the 2008 points chase to a close. Although Ricky had the Bracket class sewed up the previous race, Top Fuel and the 2.5 Index class were still anybody’s to win. After the smell of Nitro cleared, the Bracket Class was won by Ricky Burkhalter with Jason “Topfuel” Floyd taking home the runner-up trophy. In the 2.5 Index class, once again, Ricky Burkhalter brought home the hardware taking first place and again Jason following-up with a second place finish. The battle for the Top Fuel crown was close with Sunny Waas making a strong threat during qualifying with some blazing ET’s. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and AC "oz" Hauswald’s consistency thru out the series was the key to bringing home the Top Fuel Crown with Ricky Burkhalter bringing home the runner-up spot. 2008 was a successful first year for Gulf Coast RC Drag Racing. From the generosity of the Baker family allowing us to use HMP, to the dedication of those who take time to assist with track setup and tear down as well as those who help with the logistical aspects of making these events happen. All in all, we had a great first year and look forward to continued growth and success in the coming years. Thanks to everyone involved and I look forward to a bigger and better 2009 race season.
Back to Racing
Saturday, Sept. 28, 2008
Hurricane Ike has come and gone and the spirit of the RC Drag Racers stood firm thru the high winds and water. A return to the cooler fall temps provided a day of relaxing bracket racing to help set aside the thoughts of devastation that occurred along the Texas gulf coast that directly impacted the majority of all the racers. JMack took the win against Jason in the “A” side finals and Meredith drove it home to take the win on the “B” side against Greg. Congrats to all the racers on a great day of racing.
Points Series Race 3 Down In The Books
Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008
Three races down and three more to go in the 2008 points series. Cooler temps and low humidity made for a great day of racing amongst competitors. With three races remaining in the series, anyone can walk away with a trophy at the end of the year. This series averages the points from your three best races to determine your points total for the entire race season.
Low ETs for GCDRAGRACING.Com Racers
Sunday Aug. 31, 2008
It was a long break from the last race on Aug. 2 but this weekend was the fastest yet for local RC Drag Racers. With numerous low 1.6 times, racers are learning how to tame the race surface and tune their rides for the concrete surface at HMP. Track prep was second to none this week and “Kudos” goes out to Ricky and Greg for laying down the sticky stuff. With ET’s getting quicker and speeds on the increase, we should have some great racing in the coming weeks.
We Beat the Heat !
Sunday Aug. 5, 2008
On Saturday August 2, 2008 the first Texas Pro R/C Drag Shootout was hosted by GCDRAGRACING.Com. With the blistering Texas sun and temperatures nearing 100 degrees, racers endured and had a great time! With over 30 entries amongst the different divisions, the competition was fierce with many rounds won on the tree.
San Antonio racers Richard and David took home the hardware for the 2.5 Index and Bracket divisions and Josh from Dallas was crowned the winner in Top Fuel. Kip was the big winner of the “Quick Draw” competition with the quickest reaction time during eliminations with a .010 light.
